Would a Bachmann nomination seal the Tea Party's fate once and for all with Republicans?

There are many Democrats cheering on Michelle Bachmann, not to win of course but to get nomination, then lose in a historic landslide as polls show she probably would. Since many Independents would never vote for the Tea Party candidates, what is to become of a Republican Presidency anytime in the foreseeable future with the Tea Baggers at the helm? Are they doomed by public opinion of the Tea Party?
